| Three different versions of the serenity prayer |
| God give me the serenity to accept things which cannot be changed;
Give me courage to change things which must be changed;
And the wisdom to distinguish one from the other.
God grant me
strength to change the things I can / The serenity to accept the things I can change and wisdom to know the difference.
God & Goddess grant me:
The power of water, to accept with ease & grace what I cannot change
The power of fire, for the energy & courage to change the things I can.
The power of Air, for the ability to know the difference.
And the power of Earth, for the strength to continue my path.

| I wouldn't use the article with serenity, courage and wisdom.
....and there is a slip in serenity (with one "t" only)

| If you use "serenity", "courage", "wisdom" in general there is no article, but as these terms are specified by words following (e.g. the serenity to accept the things I cannot change) one has to use the definite article.
Another example:
We learn from history that we do not learn anything from history at all.
At school our pupils learn a lot about the history of Europe but only very little about the history of America.

| funny funny funny ! I think it's a great poem for higher
grades. As I'm an advocate of also teaching colloquial
English (let's face it: it's more interesting for our
students), I would absolutely recommend readsing it in
class. |
